Sorry, I didn't post last week. We were out of town without computer access. And it looks like I didn't post the week before either? Anyways Midge won this last week 93.33%, Annette 2nd 96.89% and Sean 3rd at 97.73%.

This week we have a new record. Not one single person reported in with their weight. How about we give this thing a rest? I thought summer would be good for losing weight but everyone is too busy.

Let's not report in again for a few weeks. Next day to report in will be Sunday Sept 6th. I will post a reminder as we get closer but send me an email if you can and let me know if you are still in this.

Anyone should be able to win the next prize with a full month to work on it.

Thanks,

JOD

OK, round 2 of biggest loser starts this Sunday, May 31. Most of you have told me you are in already and some of you are wondering why I am emailing you right now. If you are in, weigh yourself Sunday, write the number down and keep it to yourself. The following Sunday, June 7 send me an email to johnmeganod@yahoo.com with your percentage of your original weight, no later than noon.

Here is an example - you weigh 200 lbs on day 1, and you lose 5 lbs in the first week (195 divided by 200), you are 97.5% of your original weight.

The lowest % wins the prize of the week(usually about a $50 value).

Will post the results Sunday nights on the following blog http://odbiggestlosers.blogspot.com/

Just $20 for the 3 month contest - send me a check if you are in to:

John O'Donnell
5512 N. Parkside
Chicago, IL 60630

Just let me know if you have any questions, good luck.

Thanks,

John

I didn't get anyone's %, not even my own. Let's take a little break. May 17 will be the next day to report in with your percentage. This will give everyone a little time to get back on track. thanks.

Your assignment for this week is to lose weight and to post on the blog what has been working well for you so far on your diet/exercise plan (or just send me an email w/ details and I can post).

I will go first. I try my best to work out 3x a week. Also, I eat a huge fruit plate every afternoon with two pieces of string cheese, and don't really have desserts after dinner unless it is a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich or a Weight Watchers sundae.

I am looking forward to your responses - I need some new ideas to mix things up here.

Thanks, JOD

Let me know your % today or your original weight by noon for this week. Thanks, JOD

Sunday, March 29, 2009

Aileen wins!! 87.41%. Full results tomorrow.
Don't forget, today is the day. Need everyone's % by noon. thanks!

Sunday, March 22, 2009

I hope everyone is doing well, let me know how you are doing, if you didn't already - the next weigh in is 7 days away - aside from the big loser prize next week, everyone that weighs in below 95% gets a special prize. Good Luck!!!!!

See below from Mary Lou (G00) Niewoehner:

This two week "grace period" has been a good thing, at least for me. Having been "watching my weight" for the better part of the last 50 years I think 95% of people's success or failure is "in your head". Sometimes we just have to have the time to shift our consciousness to a different way of living. So far this week I've been able to get back where I was the week before and lose another half pound, too. Doesn't sound like much, but for my age and height, it's enough to keep me going toward my goal. Feel free to put this in the blog, if you wish.

Please feel free to post some stuff, or send to me to post, such as what is working for you, what doesnt, etc.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

How is everyone doing? We are about half way through the first week of this two week stretch. Send me an email if you can with your progress. I have found it helpful to keep an eye on the scale throughout the week. Otherwise, you step on the scale on Sunday morn and say "shit, I am one hundred percent again" Don't forget to diet and exercise too, otherwise you will not only not lose weight you will gain back what you lost in the first few weeks.

This competition has been going about 2.5 months so you should be pretty close to the lowest weight you have been in a long time, even if you have been going up and down a little bit in last few weeks. Try to be your lowest weight in years for the March 29th weigh in. If you can get there I think you can find the motivation to keep going.

Or just send me an email letting me know you are dropping out and want to gain your weight back.

Let me know how you are doing(johnmeganod@yahoo.com) I will check in again in a few days.

Good luck!! JOD

Monday, March 16, 2009

OK, you have two weeks to lose some weight. No weigh in next week. Also, we are going back to our original day 1 (Jan 4) weight. The leaders were in the very low 90's a couple weeks ago, but you all have two weeks to catch up, and the weather's getting warmer so get out there and do something!

March 29th is the next weigh in, I will need your %'s of your original, Day One weight, by NOON on the 29th. Good luck!!!

Sunday, March 15, 2009

I won this week, but only 3 people responded with %'s. We'll try something different for the next week. Anyone have any suggestions? I think people are still interested but just not losing anything or losing motivation or something. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

JOD

Thursday, January 8, 2009

How's everyone doing? I started REAL strong & already started to slip a bit last couple of days. Gotta get it going again Fri, Sat and Sun Morning.

As a reminder, I need everyone's %'s by noon on this Sunday and will post the 1st week rankings and 1st winners prize later that day.

Here is another example of how it is done - my original weight is 150 lbs and I am down 4lbs to 146 ---- 146 divided by 150 is 0.9733, so I am 97.33% - be exact as possible so less likely to have same %'s as others - I don't want to have a tie for first place and have to go in to sudden death overtime.

The skinny Boston people have hinted they are doing really well, so I hope everyone is.

Good luck and stay motivated!

Yummy soup

Hi, It's Megan again posting under John's profile (he prefers that I clarify b/c apparently my posts aren't "cool" enough to be his.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know about some soup I just tried. I got it at Costco in the frozen food section.

CP Shrimp Wonton soup.
Calories per serving: 115
Fat: 2g
Sodium is kind of high at 1,110 mg
Protein 7 g
Fiber Less than 1 g

It's really yummy and there is one whole shrimp per wonton. You just add water (so I'm wondering if that decreases the sodium amount-it must because it's listed as just the soup concentrate-not sure though).

Anyway, I forget how much it cost. Not too much. You get six bowls in a box. Something to try if you like wonton soup!

Hope everyone's having a kickass week!

Souped up Green Beans

Here's another recipe from Aileen O'Donnell, in case you missed it:

Souped-up Green Beans
1/2 pound fresh green beans
1/4 cup finely chopped onions
1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup liquid reserved from the beans
1 tablespoon salt-free chicken bouillon granules
1/2 teaspoon butter-flavored granules
1 tablespoon finely chopped green onions
1 teaspoon dried basil leaves, crushed
Pam cooking spray

In a medium saucepan over high heat, bring 2 cups water to a boil. Add the green beans and return to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium; cover, and cook for 20 minutes, or until crisp-tender. Drain, reserving 1 cup liquid and set aside.Spray the inside of a medium heavy skillet with nonstick vegetable cooking spray and place over medium heat. Add the beans, onions, bell pepper, salt and black pepper. Cook for 3 minutes, stirring often. Stir in the reserved liquid, bouillon and butter-flavored granules; cook for 1 minute longer, then stir in the green onions and basil. Remove from the heat and let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Barbecue Meat Loaf from Cooking Light

Hi, this is actually Megan posting! I wanted to share a yummy, easy recipe that I've been making for a few years from Cooking Light. Even some of my kids like it-and it's pretty satisfying served with a baked potato or brown rice and steamed veggies or sauteed spinach (my fave).

Barbecue Meatloaf
1 1/2 pounds ground beef, extra lean (raw)
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup BBQ sauce, divided
1 TBSP prepared mustard
1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
2 large egg whites
cooking spray

1. Preheat the oven to 350.
2. Combine the beef, breadcrumbs, onion, 1 tbsp. BBQ sauce and remaining ingredients (except cooking spray) in a large bowl.
3. Shape meat mixture into a 9x5 inch loaf on a broiler pan coated with cooking spray. (*NOTE: I usually do this in just a regular loaf pan & it's fine. It would probably alter the serving sizes though and thus the nutritional info though). Spread remaining BBQ sauce over top of meatloaf. Bake at 350 for one hour or until a meat thermometer registers 160. Let stand 10 minutes. Cut into 12 slices.
Yield: 6 servings (serving size: 2 slices).

As a reminder, this thing starts tomorrow. Be sure to weigh yourself tomorrow at whatever time of day works for you. Just mark the weight down somewhere and don't forget it because it will always be referred to as your original weight amount in the weekly competitions.

Next Sunday (Jan 11) try to let me know by about noon what % of your original weight you are. Dont post your % on the blog, Just send it to me in an email to johnmeganod@yahoo.com

A lot more people have joined up in the last day, I will post the whole list when we have it together. Also, I have changed my mind about something, if any one wants to join a few days or a week into it, it will be ok. They would actually be the one at a disadvantage.

Good luck!
